Negros police to probe slain ex-cop’s link to policeman

THE Police Regional Office (PRO)-Negros Island Region (NIR) will investigate the connection of Police Officer 1 Wilmer Bansag with Police Officer 2 Federico Nicolas, who had gone absent without leave in Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) and was gunned down last weekend.

Chief Superintendent Edmund Gonzales, acting director of PRO-NIR, said he cannot yet tell if Bansag is involved in any illegal activity, particularly drugs, because they still need to validate the information.

Bansag and his 17-year-old son were Nicolas’s companions when unidentified assailants fired at them while on board the latter’s vehicle.

Nicolas was identified as one of the protectors of illegal drug operations in the city.

He was considered a level two high-value target of PRO-NIR, and was also under the drugs watch list of BCPO.

As of Wednesday, August 23, Police Station 1 head Leo Estopa said they still have no lead on the identities of the perpetrators.
