Team play for Davao Durians

THE Davao Durians rugby football team will bank on their cohesive team play and perseverance, as they aim for the gold medal in the 2015 Philippine National Games (PNG) rugby football event set on July 4 at the Nomads Sports Club in Parañaque City, Metro Manila.

Davao Durians coach Rose Mae Lanticse told Sun.Star Davao in an interview that she has seen the perseverance in each of the players in their team while they have also bonded like a family.

“Our players are really hard working and we have treated each other like a family. That is why we see this as an advantage because we could run our plays knowing that our players are trying to protect each other in the field,” Lanticse said.

She also said that the team will rely on the services of top players Allen Lara and Roland Tanio. But she also expects everybody in the team to contribute.

The squad is composed of Alex Alcarazen, Bernard Alamis, Denniel Butcon, Jofern Coleto, Zedrick Lalisan, Frederick Mahumot, Ronnel Nabor, Lawrence Olaco and Hilton Soberano.

While Lanticse admitted that theirs is a young team having been organized in 2012, she believes that they have enough exposure to be at par with the rest of the competing teams.

As a coach, Lanticse said she played with and learned from the best coaches in the country.

The Davao Durians is tentatively grouped in Pool B along with Cebu Dragons, Cagayan de Oro, Pasig Pirates and Quezon City Polytechnic University.

“I think the Cebu Dragons will be our biggest challenge and I believe that we are at par with the rest of the teams in Pool B,” Lanticse said.
