THE Cebu Provincial Veterinary Office deployed their veterinarians to nine municipalities in Cebu to examine all animals brought into the town and make sure these are free of any disease.
The veterinarians were tasked to conduct quarantine operation and border control, and surveillance and monitoring of diseases of animals in sea ports, including bird flu.
The veterinary team composed of two to three personnel were deployed to Bogo, San Remigio, Bantayan Island, Tabuelan, Santander, Medellin, Daanbantayan, Pilar in Camotes and Samboan.
Once the animals are cleared after an inspection, the veterinarian will issue a veterinary health certificate to allow the movement of the animals in and out of the municipality.
Gov. Hilario Davide III said the Provincial Veterinary Office asked the local government units to assist the quarantine personnel at the ports.
In its latest memorandum, the Department of Agriculture lifted the ban on the movement of poultry products from Luzon to Mindanao and Visayas. The ban was announced following the bird flu outbreak in Pampanga earlier this month.
“Maybe it’s already safe, that’s good news for me. But let’s not put our guard down,” Davide said. (Angel Mae Bellita, USJ-R Intern)
