PNP chief awards 2 wounded Cebu cops

TWO wounded police officers and 21 others, including police units, in Central Visayas Region were awarded by Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa on Wednesday, August 23.

It was done during the Police Regional Office's (PRO) celebration of the 116th Police Service anniversary.

Dela Rosa visited Police Officer 1 (PO1) Dennis Valiente at the Sacred Heart Hospital to award the wounded policeman with a Medalya ng Sugatang Magiting. Valiente also received a Glock 30 pistol from the country’s top police official.

“Kini kay naigo man ka’g caliber .45, tagaan tika’g Glock 30. Caliber .45 na pero di na kapildi, balitok gud na imong kalaban,” Dela Rosa said.

PRO-Central Visayas Director Jose Mario Espino, meanwhile, handed over cash assistance to Valiente.

Valiente, who was grateful for the recognition given by his superiors, vowed to arrest drug suspect William Sumalinog, who shot him thrice on August 7.

“Paghuwat lang nga maayo ko, dakpon gud tika (Just wait for me to recover, and I will arrest you),” said Valiente.

Dela Rosa also awarded Regional Intelligence Division (RID) operative PO2 Jemuel Villaflores, who got wounded in a drug bust against PO3 Ryan Quiamco, whose name was mentioned by President Rodrigo Duterte as among the law enforcers allegedly involved in the illegal drug trade.

Dela Rosa warned personnel in the Police Admin Holding Unit (PHAU) of Camp Crame against marking other officers “present” in the attendance even if they were not around, like the case of PO3 Quiamco.

“We are risking our lives here for the internal cleansing and you’re fooling with me? I will hang you,” the PNP chief said.

Quiamco was reportedly marked present in his attendance in the national headquarters during the time that he was in Barangay Pooc, Talisay City where he allegedly engaged with the police that ended his life.

“Mao na akong giingon. Bantay lang mo’g ma-establish nako na, ma-validate nako nga ensakto nga bayaran mo,” said Dela Rosa.

Dela Rosa said that he will order the investigation of the personnel in charge of the accounting of the policemen placed in PHAU.

“Nganong mao lagi na? Naa diri basin nagahatag og kwarta didto maong present siya didto nga naa man siya diri,” said Dela Rosa.

Also awarded were Cebu City Police Office Director Joel Doria for best senior police-commissioned officer (PCO) for operations and Cebu Provincial Police Office Director Eric Noble for best senior police-commissioned officer for administration.
