Concert for a cause slated on Sept. 16

VARIOUS local and foreign groups of singers will be performing in a concert for-a-cause this coming September 16, in support of the community transformation programs of a private organization in the city.

Hope for the Nations (HFTN)-Philippine executive director Tancho Baes, during a media conference held at Habi at Kape Abreeza Mall Wednesday, August 23, said "The Dare to Dream Solidarity Dinner Concert" is inspired by the impoverished children who dream of coming out from poverty and have a better life for themselves and their families.

Baes said the dinner concert, which will be held at Faith International Academy at Marfori Heights, will feature popular Broadway songs performed by professional singers from a Broadway group in New York, Repertory Philippines Performers-Manila, Silliman University in Dumaguete City, and Davao City.

Proceeds will fund HFTN's programs on education and leadership training for the children in the grassroot level.

"HFTN-Philippines envisions a future of responsible and honest leaders by honing and shaping our youth today towards the ideal leadership we all wanted for our country since then," Baes said.

The organization recently opened its pilot school in the country, Pathway to Life Schoolhouse, in Tacontian Street, Agdao, Davao City last August 1, 2017, with a total number of 25 students who all come from poor families.

The school, Baes said, has only two teachers who teach not only basic subjects for Grades 1 to 12 but also values and leadership trainings that will help the students become globally-competent in various fields.

"Even at their homes, we ask their parents or guardians to assess how they do household chores and how their learned values developed at home," he said.

The students, Baes added, are also trained to do organic farming at the school's rooftop to teach them agricultural entrepreneurship. Also, they are taught basic accounting and financial topics, together with other core basic subjects such as History, Math, Filipino, and Reading.
