Ginoong Higalaay 2017 opens on August 24

GINOONG Higalaay 2017 Fitness and Bodybuilding Competition are all set at the CDO Bar located at Rotunda, Cagayan de Oro City.

More than P100,000 worth of prizes, trophies, and medals will be given to lucky winners today, August 24. The program will officially start at 4 p.m.

This is organized by Brad Calonia, owner and manager of Equilibrium fitness center, and Allan Empleo, marketing officer of Equilibrium fitness center.

This year, there are no female categories to compete. They only have four male categories, namely: Physique (Tall), Physique (Short), Novice Bodybuilding which is exclusive for Mindanao competitors only, and the Advance Bodybuilding which is open for all regions.

“This is our annual fitness event wherein we have the theme, No to War and Yes to Fit Mindanao. This is a national event actually,” Calonia said.

“This is also a campaign for Mindanao where we are inviting all Kagay-anons to join our fitness activity, to let them know that they should not just be involved in the gym but also to bodybuilding and physique as well,” added Don Reymund Ramasasa, the head coach of Equilibrium Fitness Center.

Ramasasa, also known as “Coach Moy,” and John Raul Cornelio, are the athletes coming from Equilibrium who will also be joining the competition; Coach Moy for the Advance Bodybuilding and Cornelio for the Novice.

In the past years, the event was only exclusive for Mindanao. However, since more gyms and organizing bodies supporting the event, Ginoong Higalaay eventually became a national competition. The organizers have also been promoting the event to a national level, which made Ginoong Higalaay 2017 the biggest competition yet.

Ramasasa said their main goal of having this kind of event is to promote healthy living to the people of Cagayan de Oro, and to the whole country, starting from promoting it to families.

“There is a registration fee of 1,000 per athletes inclusive of t-shirts, and apparels courtesy of Equilibrium Fitness Center. And then, during the event, there is an entrance fee of 50 pesos for those people who would like to witness the said event. We are not just simply promoting our gym but the other gyms also,” Coach Moy said.

“If we are going to total it, usually, we have like 80 competitors,” he added.

They are inviting everyone who has what it takes to be in the competition to join and compete because amazing prizes that await them. They are accepting registrants until the last minute, before the program starts.

Right after the competition, the judges and the emcee will automatically declare the winners of all categories.

The Equilibrium Fitness Center organizers said in an interview that they are hoping by next year, they will be able to have the female category competition.
