EARLY favorites Wesley Jovan Magbanua and Bhing Joel Gimony shared top honors in the 2017 Kadayawan Sportsfest Youth Rapid Chess Championship held at the Davao Wisdom Academy (DWA) .
Magbanua, a 12-year-old student of Jose Maria College (JMC), edged fellow 5.5 pointer Irish Yngayo of Davao Central College (DCC) via superior tiebreaks to annex the kiddies division title of the event presented by the city government of Davao through the Sports Development Division-City Mayor's Office (SDD-CMO).
DWA's Queen Peralta and Rodel Buenafe, Jr. of JMC scored identical five points to place third and fourth, respectively.
Charlene Moulic seized the best female award with four points.
Gimony also of JMC, for his part, secured the seniors division crown as he outclassed fellow five-pointers Gino Angelo Asuncion of San Pedro College and Blanche Ellyz Bongato of Stella Maris Academy of Davao via tiebreaks.
JMC's Honey Grace Buenafe went home with the best female award.
