FIRST, congratulations to Sonny Ongtao for making a hole-in-one last August 19, 2017 at the 28th Durian Tee of Apo Golf Club. He made his eagle on hole no. 11 using a 9 iron at 135 yards. His prize — a Daikin 2hp aircon. Yippee!

Let’s talk 29th Southeast Asian Games. As you know, it is being held in Malaysia from August 19–31. In the sport of golf, I do not have the results yet. The golf competition is ongoing. As I was writing this, the competitors had just started playing their final round for the individual competition. The first round was last Aug. 22. The second round was last Aug. 23. And on Thursday, August 24, it was their final round — for the individual play.

The venue for the golf competition is at The Mines Resort & Golf Club, Mines Wellness City, Seri Kembangan, Selangor, Malaysia.

The format, according to the official KL2017 website states that, ‘The 29th SEA Games men’s and women’s golf event shall consist of two categories which are individual and team. Both categories will be played with different formats, which is stroke play for individual and match play for team events. Individual events shall consist of 71 Par for 18 holes and will be three rounds of 18 holes. The format for a team event will be a three singles Match Play for men and two single Match Play for women. The seeding for the team event is determined by a total of three best players for Men or a total of two best players for Women Stroke Play score in the individual event.’

In golf team competition, the first and second rounds are happening today, Aug. 25. The first round of Team Single Match is this morning while the second round is in the afternoon.
