A REMOTE village in Maria, Aurora maybe miles away from Japan and difficult to reach, the Rotary Club of Hadano Nako is determined to go the distance together with its international partner, the Rotary Club of Metro Baguio (RCMB) for the realization of a water pipeline project that will benefit more than a thousand residents there.
Works are now underway for the fulfillment of the proposal which aims to provide water pipeline project that will give water supply to Barangay Cadayacan with a population of 1,630 and the construction of water supply systems for three to four villages covering six kilometers of water supply pipelines for 366 household connections with an estimated capacity of 1,000 cubic meters per day.
The village’s old pipelines were destroyed at the height of strong Typhoon Lando in October 2015. One hundred percent total damages of infrastructure including the water pipeline of Cadayacan Village were also recorded.
RC of Hadano Naka Japan will actively participate as lead partner in the planning and successful implementation of the project including all fundraising required for the project while RCMB’s role will focus on monitoring, evaluation, and providing a final report on how the project goals were achieved.
Both partners must be actively involved in planning and implementing the grant and will be responsible for reporting requirements and making sure Foundation funds are spent appropriately.
Meanwhile, the local community organization will implement and undertake their own water supply programme and responsible for the proposed sustainable village development scheme.
The start of the project was an offshoot to the visit of RC of Hadano Naka Director Shingo Komaki and wife Rotary Ann Yahney Kudan of Rotary International District 2780 Japan during the regular meeting of RCMB on May 2 at the Crown Legacy Hotel.
Kudan who has soft spot for Baler being a resident there for years before she moved to Japan, was able to coordinate with International Partner RCMB represented by past president and District 3790 Cluster 1c past assistant governor Lyman Salvador through District 3790 Cluster 1C past secretary Audrey Sungduan who served as a link between the two clubs.
Rotary is making a difference in fulfilling such undertaking that will bring clean water to a remote village that badly needs help.
Involving the community in the planning and implementation of the project also means empowering the people who are expected to make all efforts for the sustainability of the said project.
