5 teams live another day

THE 2004 Rebels, Bai 91, Sipat 98, 1986 Mighty Geeks and 2010 Pioneers live to fight another day as they forged do-or-die matches against their higher-seeded opponents in the 2015 University of San Carlos North Alumni Basketball Conference Summer League Quarterfinal round last weekend at the USC North Campus Basketball Gym.

The Rebels defeated the No.2 seed 2005 Chameleons; 81-69; the Pioneers defeated the 4th seed 2007 Way Bus, 90-74, in Division 3; and Bai survived the 29-point explosion of Edmund Odulio to beat the third-ranked 1988 Barakos, 61-53; the 1986 Mighty Geeks leaned on the 31 points of Arturo Pepito Mata and the 27 points contributions of Francisco Matugas Jr. to deal with the 4th seed 1990 Modern Solutions Titans, 96-67; and Sipat survived the end-game blitz of the No.4 finisher Happy Homes Millennium 2000 with a 69-63 win in Division 2.

The rubber match is scheduled this Sunday with the 1990 Titans trying to avert elimination when they take the Mighty Geeks at 9 a.m., the Millennium squad trying to rebound against the 1998 Sipat at 10:30 a.m., the Chameleons will try to take their place to the Top 4 as they engage the Rebels once more at 12 noon, the Barakos will try to get its rhythm back against Bai 91 at 1:30 p.m. and the Way Bus batch eyeing vengeance on the Pioneers at 3p.m.

Meanwhile, top seeds 1985 Acite de Manzanilla Androids of Division 1, 1994 Bulldogs of Division 2 and 2011 Elevens of Division 3 pulled through with easy wins in the quarterfinal round.
