My recommended gyms in Manila

WHILE I believe the fitness community in Cebu is growing, it’s always good to talk shop with our colleagues from the North. My peers from Manila have a unique perspective on keeping clients healthy. They work with professional basketball players, weekend warriors, people looking to get fit, all the while motivating all these people to train despite the heavy traffic, as what any Cebuano can attest to after spending a few hours on the road in Manila. This list is not ranked though, as I believe these facilities are all pretty good.

360 Fitness Club. This is one of the more popular chains now, having seven branches spread across the Metro Manila. Founded and owned by Coach Chappy Callanta, CSCS, 360 Fitness Club made a name for themselves by making workouts efficient and effective. With Interval Training as a modality, workouts are accomplished within 30 minutes, inspiring clients to stick to a schedule. Locations: Ortigas, Manila, The Fort, Makati, Timog, Commonwealth and Alabang.

Movement Performance MNL. This sprawling facility in SM Jazz Makati is owned by Coach Julio Veloso, a graduate of Masters of Exercise Science from the University of Sydney. Movement Performance is home to numerous professional athletes. Their tagline is “Train Hard and Train Smart,” which is something that we should all aspire to do. Location: Sm Jazz Buendia Makati.

Focus Athletics. Perhaps one of the most exclusive gyms in the area. Headed by Coach Mark Caron, CSCS, this facility is also home to numerous athletes. Programs are individualized and everybody here gets a personal trainer. This facility is one of the most well equipped in the country, boasting of several Keiser Strength Training units. Location: Pasong Tamo, Makati
