A CAMEROONIAN national was caught by police for exchanging fake Euro banknotes to Philippine Peso amounting to P60,000 in Barili, Cebu.
Chief Inspector Jose Rovic Villarin, Moalboal police commander, said the suspect has two passports with different names and refused to give his real identity.
Villarin said the foreigner's two names are Ayoola Kelvin Awok and Gidson Kelvin Obama.
Before the suspect was caught in Barili on Saturday afternoon, August 26, he approached victim Cesaio Indino and exchanged his Euros.
The foreigner then boarded a bus bound for Cebu City. The bus's route includes Barili.
Indino, a tour guide, detected the bills were not genuine. He then called the Moalboal Police Station and reported the incident. The police then the Barili Police Station, which later apprehended the foreigner.
The foreigner was brought back to Moalboal Police Station, where Indino got back his P60,000. Indino decided not press charges against him.
Villarin said they still detained the foreigner for holding two passports.
The police official said they will turn over the foreigner on Monday to the Bureau of Immigration-Central Visayas. (KAL)
