Private firm donates vests to city

THE AboitizLand Co. turned over 100 safety traffic vests to the Lapu-Lapu City Traffic Management System (CTMS) to show its continued support for traffic management in the city.

AboitizLand assistant vice president for external affairs Anthony Noel led the turnover of the traffic vests to CTMS head Mario Napule and City Administrator Atty. Florito Puzon.

The ceremonial turnover was held in the conference room of the Office of the Mayor last Wednesday.

A reflective safety vest for each of the traffic enforcers in Lapu-Lapu is one of the things needed by the CTMS.

In an interview, Noel said distributing traffic vests is part of AboitizLand’s program, as they are also concerned about the safety of the traffic enforcers who work day and night.

“We saw these people in our traffic team as daily heroes because of the increasing traffic that we have been experiencing like here in Mactan. And these guys (work) rain or shine and night and day, 24/7 they are there,” said Noel.

With the reflective safety vests, he said, the traffic personnel will be clearly visible, especially at night, and will be safe from accidents.

“Our partnership with Lapu-Lapu, and of course our partnership with our beloved Mayor Paz (Radaza), will always be there and we will always be there for the city of Lapu-Lapu,” Noel said.

Napule thanked AboitizLand, saying the vests are a great help to the CTMS personnel.

CTMS has traffic safety vests before, but these were not enough for all traffic enforcers.

“Dako kaayo nig tabang sa amoa kay visible atong mga tawo sa karsada labi na kung gabii labi na (This is a big help to us) especially on the first bridge and Sangi,” said Napule.

Each traffic enforcer will be given one vest.

CTMS still needs communication equipment and a vehicle for their operations.

Earlier, Aboitiz also gave similar gear to the Traffic Enforcement Agency of Mandaue. (FMG)
