2 police officials wounded during motorcycle race

TWO police officials were injured in an accident during a motorcycling event in Dalaguete and Sibonga towns last Sunday dawn.

At 4:20 a.m., Insp. Jade Campo Sumugat, Asturias town police chief, met an accident on the national highway in Sitio Guiwanon, Barangay Poblacion, Dalaguete last Sunday dawn.

Sumugat, who suffered wounds in different parts of his body, was brought to Julio Cardinal Rosales Memorial Hospital before he was transferred to a private hospital in Cebu City.

Investigation showed that Sumugat was driving his motorcycle toward the south when he ran over a dead dog lying on the lane. He lost control of his vehicle and he fell.

On the national highway in Barangay Poblacion, Sibonga, Chief Insp. Roel Grabador Villarin lost control of his motorcycle while traveling on a curve and crashed into a gutter.

Sibonga municipal disaster team personnel rescued him and recovered the heavily damaged vehicle.

Sumugat and Villarin were among the 500 participants in the Cebu 600 Challenge, the first 600-km., 12-hour motorcycle endurance riding event.

The event started at the South Road Properties in Cebu City at 3 a.m. last Sunday and ended in Santander. (KAL)
