4th Human Resources Congress for Tourism Sector Set

THE Tourism Industry Board Foundation Inc. (Tibfi), in cooperation with the Department of Tourism and Technical Education Skills Development Authority, will mount the "4th Tourism Human Resources Congress" on September 25-27 at the Grand Xing Imperial Hotel in Iloilo City.

To be held primarily to help update knowledge in best global practices and upgrade the level of service by local companies in the tourism industry, the 4th Tibfi Tourism Human Resources Congress will tackle how human resources (HR) affect customer experience in hotels, resorts, and other tourism-related industries.

It will also put the spotlight on training, development, and improvement of HR in the industry, as well as the different issues in entrepreneurship and sector employment.

"The goal is to make tourism more sustainable by examining management practices and to upgrade skills and knowledge. How people in the industry interact with tourists is an integral part of the total experience that is why there is a need to invest in people and create a balance among the industry's economic, social, and environmental components," said Dean Edieser dela Santa, overall committee chairman for the 4th Tourism HR Congress.

In this year's congress, the Philippines is also set to meet the Asean requirement for trainers and assessors through the Asean Mutual Recognition Arrangement and the Asean Qualifications Reference Framework.

Specific points in housekeeping, front office, food and beverage, cookery, and travel services on how to achieve the goals set in these two frameworks will also be discussed in the congress.

"We want to bridge the gap between the industry and the education and training sectors, and examine the factors and issues that influence human resource development industry," said Maria Cristina Aquino, Tibfi chairman.
