Oro fitness buffs rule Ginoong Higalaay 2017

FOR Don Reymund Ramasasa, hard work and one glass of water in 5 days paid off.

Ramasasa, an athlete from Cagayan de Oro City’s Equilibrium Fitness Center, was judged the Champion for Advance Level Bodybuilding in the recently concluded Ginoong Higalaay 2017 held at the CDO Bar.

Organizer Brad Calonia said he was very happy to share that the event was a success with some participants from his fitness center bagging awards.

“I was training for four months then along with strict diet that will respond my regimen. It actually resulted to what I expected with my objectives and plans in the event competition. I was expecting to beat my personal record but I did expect that I will become the champion. Consistency and patience brought me to this title,” added Ramasasa, also known as Coach Moy, said.

The event was divided into four categories: physique short, physique tall, novice bodybuilding, and advance bodybuilding.

Here are the results:

Physique Short: Champion – Paul Cesar Deles, first runner-up – Mark Pradia, second runner-up – Herminigildo Ayuda

Physique Tall: Champion – Jayl Dano, first runner-up – Dennis Tao-tao, second runner-up – Ronald Yap.

Novice Bodybuilding: Champion – Warren Caballero, first runner-up – Kevin Balaba, second runner-up – Dennis Tao-tao.

Advance Bodybuilding: Champion – Don Reymund Ramasasa, first Runner-up – Miko Adanza Rebolos, second Runner-up – Alexis Lee Besario.

Some 60 took part in the competition, some of which were participants from different gyms here in city. The winners received cash prizes, trophies, and medals.

Winners of this year’s Ginoong Higalaay will not be able to participate next year, however, as stated in the rules of the competition. This is to give other athletes a chance to win in the competition.

“People may be sedentary or sports-minded. As for me, I have been into bodybuilding since I was fourteen years old. My chosen sport has taught me the values of consistency, patience, and persistence. And prayers are very important too,” Ramasasa said.

Coach Moy will be competing in Iligan City and Manila.

As for Calonia, he said he is glad the event attracted many participants.

“I am hoping that by next year, there will be more participants. Most possibly, we will be doing this competition annually, here in Cagayan de Oro City,” Brad Calonia, who is also the owner/manager of Equilibrium Fitness Center, said.
