Burglars cart P3M from meat processing plant in Mabalacat

MABALACAT CITY -- Five burglars have carted away cash amounting to almost P3 million from a meat processing plant in Sitio Maisac, Barangay Duquit here last Monday.

Former Magalang mayor Romulo Pecson, owner of Roel’s Food Corporation, said the suspects managed to enter the firm’s warehouse by destroying a portion of its roof.

Pecson said that CCTV footages revealed that the suspects, who were wearing bonnets to cover their faces, opened the cash vault using a crow bar.

“They used a ladder to get over our fence and ropes to get down from the roof where they entered. They started opening the drawers where a small amount of cash is placed,” Pecson said.

The vault contained P2.9 million accumulated from the three day sales of the meat processing plant.

Superintendent Ruel Cagape, city police officer in charge , said they are still investigating the incident.

Cagape said they are looking into the possibility that some employees are involved in the robbery.

“But our ongoing investigation is not yet conclusive because we are still validating evidence,” Cagape said.

Cagape said the Scene of the Crime Operatives (Soco) lifted fingerprints from the vault and roof of the company.

“We also requested former mayor Pecson to get the biometrics of his employees so we can compare them to the latent prints the Soco lifted from the vault and the roof,” Cagape said.

The detailed security guard was reportedly sleeping as rains were heavy when the suspects entered the warehouse.

“He was awakened for a while because of the noise but he thought that there were only cats playing on the roof,” Pecson said.
