Woman killed in Dumanjug gun attack

A WOMAN died while a motorcycle-for-hire driver landed in the hospital in a shooting incident at 12 p.m. Thursday, August 31, in Barangay Tubod-dugoan, Dumanjug town, Cebu.

Senior Inspector Gilfred Baroman, the town police chief, identified the fatality as Erlinda Causin Tormis. The wounded driver was Luciano Gabia Salazar.

The assailant, Gimelo "Jimmy" Albino, was caught.

Baroman said Albino's conflict with Tormis's family over a property caused the suspect to attack the victim.

Before the incident happened, Tormis and Albino attended the hearing at the Tubod-dugoan Barangay Hall with the Lupong Tagapamayapa members trying to settle their land dispute.

No agreement was reached between them after they had a heated exchange. Albino later left the barangay hall.

Tormis hired Salazar to transport her to Dumanjug town proper. Albino shot them several times while he was on his motorcycle.

Tormis succumbed to gunshot wounds in the back. Salazar was hit in the chest and the slug tore through the flesh, exiting below the right armpit.

Albino will face a murder complaint for Tormis's death and frustrated murder for wounding Salazar. (KAL)
