Sanchez: Getting caught

THEIR only fault it seems was getting caught in front of the CCTV (closed-circuit television).

After all, didn’t he advise the Philippine National Police to plant guns to suspects? O ‘pag walang baril, walang – bigyan mo ng baril. Here’s a loaded gun, fight because the mayor said, “let’s fight.”

The President indicated that he had given instructions to plant guns to show that drug suspects resisted arrest. Police have described those who resist as “nanlaban,” most of whom have been shot dead.

And now Senator Panfilo Lacson showed a video where police officers were allegedly planting shabu (methamphetamine hydrochloride) and stealing money from their victims.

“This is not to put you on the spot, PNP (Philippine National Police). But just to impress upon you na hindi isolated [‘yung Jee Ick Joo case]. Because naisip ko rin, I have in my possession CCTV video ng iba pang ginagawa ng mga pulis natin,” Lacson said.

The police officers who were caught on video allegedly planting illegal drugs have been relieved of their duties.

The incident caught on tape happened in Metro Manila.

I have to emphasize the location in this latest development. After suspected police officers executed teenager Kian de los Santos for “nanlaban” and for being an illegal drug runner, social media buzzed with questions, “Do you feel safe out in the streets?”

I can’t really say I feel totally safe in Bacolod. If anything, I could be a victim of mugging from criminal elements.

But not from rogue cops even if the President urged the Philippine National Police to do illegal acts such as planting guns or illegal drugs to slain suspects.

Admittedly, I Googled for EJKs in Bacolod or police officers planting evidence on criminal suspects.

I hit the jackpot. Or so I thought.

I read a story of police and prosecutors investigating a video showing an officer appearing to tamper with evidence that sent a man to jail.

That happened under the jurisdiction of the BCPO (Baltimore City Police Office). Oops, wrong BCPO. The one in the US is 14,096 km distant from Bacolod City, Philippines.

I could be wrong, of course. But if hostile witness Michael de la Concepcion of the Left organization Bayan-Negros could publicly admit that cases of killings in Negros Occidental is minimal compared to the cases in other areas, then that raises the bar of credibility of our Negrense cops.

Salute to you, sirs and ma’am!
