Councilor to police: Enforce anti-vandalism ordinance

BACOLOD City Councilor Sonya Verdeflor urged the Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) and the City Legal Office (CLO) Enforcement Unit to round up and take legal action against violators of the anti-vandalism ordinance.

Verdeflor, who authored the resolution for the purpose passed Wednesday, said the BCPO and CLO should deploy police and enforcement personnel from midnight to 5 a.m. to monitor the vandals.

She said the effectivity of City Ordinance 534, Series of 2011 as amended by City Ordinance 08-14-679 Series of 2014, otherwise known as the “Anti-Vandalism Ordinance of 2011” has not deterred violators from doing acts of vandalism.

Verdeflor added that it has been discovered that violators do their acts during times when police and enforcement personnel are not around, which is usually from midnight to 5 a.m.

The councilor said that at present, many establishments and buildings, walls, roll-up doors, and passageways are vandalized with so many markings and unpleasant drawings that have become an eyesore.
