NUCLEAR. South Korea's military said Sunday, September 3, that North Korea is believed to have conducted its sixth nuclear test after it detected a strong earthquake, hours after Pyongyang claimed that its leader has inspected a hydrogen bomb meant for a new intercontinental ballistic missile.

DROWNS. A five-year-old girl drowned in a deep well in Barangay Dayhagon, Medellin, Cebu, on Saturday morning, September 2.

WILDFIRE. Vineyards moved their wine harvest to the cool of night and transit trains slowed for fear that some of the hottest weather in San Francisco Bay Area history would warp rails Saturday, as stifling temperatures and the smoky pall of wildfires marked an unofficial end to summer across the US West.
