Pangan: Beneficial foundation

THE Bridges of Benevolent Initiatives Foundation or BBI is truly living up to its corporate nomenclature.

The Foundation, headed by its Chairman and President, Dr. Ireneo Alvaro, was established not to amass wealth for its founder and members but to create a niche for services in the communities it is situated in.

Aside from its other objectives, the BBI gives full four-year college scholarships to deserving students coming from the marginalized sector.

According to the press release, the foundation's goal is "to act as the bridge and bring about change in the lives of the needy in poverty-stricken areas through its social services, entrepreneurial empowerment, including disaster management programs."

The foundation has a wide range of options for the residents of the cities of Angeles and Mabalacat, Magalang and adjacent communities of the Clark Freeport.

It has other goals and aspirations such as aiming to provide opportunities to concerned residents as to become independent, self-reliant and productive members of the society.

Dr. Alvaro has this very encouraging message to the affected citizens: All of our recipients demonstrate great potential in leading the next generation because they dream big. Let us continue to inspire these young minds and let them believe that they will achieve what they wish to accomplish.

Inspiring words indeed from one who had first-hand knowledge and experience what poverty can do in one's life, including the desire for an education. Dr. Alvaro really walk the talk and is needed to serve more as a public servant.

The Department of Labor and Employment or Dole has shown true compassion toward ordinary workers or employees.

It has issued several guidelines aiming to improve their plight and health including forbidding ladies (like sales ladies) to wear high heels for a protracted time schedule, for health reasons, especially infanticipating women and the allocation of longer break periods to give rest to workers and, lately, the compressed work week time frame.

Truly, the department studies and explores more situations beneficial to the workers.
