DOJ set to start probe into Kian Delos Santos' killing

THE Department of Justice (DOJ) will begin the preliminary investigation into the killing of 17-year-old Kian Delos Santos next week.

According to Justice Undersecretary Erickson Balmes, the three-man panel of investigating prosecutors to be led by Senior Assistant State Prosecutor Tofel Austria will conduct the legal proceedings on September 12 and 19.

Murder and torture complaints have been filed filed with the DOJ against the cops involved in Delos Santos' killing, namely: PO3 Arnel Oares, PO1 Jeremias Pereda, PO1 Jerwin Cruz, Prencinct Commander Chief Inspector Amor Cerillo, and several John Does.

Complainants, assisted by the Public Attorney's Office chief Persida Rueda-Acosta, were Saldy and Lorenza, the parents of Kian.

Aside from the said complaints, separate criminal complaints for murder and planting of evidence have been filed by the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) with the DOJ against the same respondents.

The DOJ has yet to issue an order consolidating the said complaints.

Kian, 17, was shot thrice by police conducting anti-drug sweep in Caloocan last August 16.

Police earlier said he was a drug runner working for his father, which his parents denied. (SunStar Philippines)
