DOJ directs NBI to probe killing of former Mandaluyong prosecutor

THE Department of Justice (DOJ) has directed the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) to conduct a parallel investigation into the killing of former Mandaluyong Prosecutor Pablito Gahol.

Gahol was shot early Sunday by motorycle-riding gunmen inside his car along Nuebe de Pebrero street in Barangay Mauway, Mandaluyong while he and his family were on their way home from church.

The order signed by Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre II also directs the NBI to submit to him a report disclosing their findings related to the incident and file appropriate charges against those who killed Gahol.

Aside from being a former prosecutor, Gahol, 77 also worked as a former chairman of Barangay Mauway.

This has not been the first attack against a government prosecutor.

Prosecutor Rolando Acido of Mati, Davao Oriental was shot to death by unidentified gunmen in 2016.

In July 2017 Assitant Prosecutor Maria Ronatay of Rizal Province also died after being gunned down by unknown gunmen.

Surigao prosecutor Manuel Tesiorna was shot by also unidentified assailants last February.

He survived the critical condition after receiving treatment from a hospital in Cebu. (SunStar Philippines)
