Rizal priest faces new criminal complaint at DOJ

THE Rizal parish priest earlier arrested for booking the sexual services of a minor at a motel in Marikina City is facing a new criminal complaint at the Department of Justice (DOJ).

Monsignor Arnel Lagarejos, arrested by authorities in an entrapment operation last July 28, has been slapped with charges for qualified trafficking.

This, after his alleged 13-year-old victim sought the legal assistance of the Public Attorney's Office after the priest went out on bail last month.

Lagarejos is currently facing a case for violation of anti-trafficking in persons act before the Marikina court.

PAO chief Persida Rueda-Acosta said the new case against him was different to the first one where he was able to post bail.

The case is non-bailable, added Acosta.

The PAO chief said the complaint is in relation to the two other previous incidents that transpired this year, involving the same victim.

According to Acosta, the one who pimped Ana is also included as respondent in the charge sheet.

According to Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre II, the DOJ will be processing the family's request to be placed under the Witness Protection Program within the day.

Lagarejos, formerly of the St. John the Baptist Parish in Taytay Rizal, was stripped off his position following the alleged rape try. (SunStar Philippines)
