Navigation buoys to be set up soon

THE Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) and Philippine Ports of Authority (PPA) in Davao are planning to install six more navigational buoys along Pakiputan Strait in Davao Gulf this year.

Commodore Joselito dela Cruz, Coast Guard commander for Southern Mindanao, said the buoys will be installed in the sea area adjacent to Agdao [point A]; Alcantara [point B]; Sasa [point C]; Panacan [point D], and Tibungco [point E/F].

"A survey in Pakiputan Strait was already completed with the Coast Guard Station Davao providing an aluminum boat and divers. Hindi ko pa masabi kung kailan talaga ito ma-install, but definitely, it will be installed here," dela Cruz said.

He added that the PCG and the PPA are just waiting for the documents to be completed and the contractors to act on the project.

Once completed, dela Cruz said, safety of navigation will be bolstered at Pakiputan Strait as these buoys will serve as visible markers, even at night, to mark off the shallow portion of the strait.

He said this will safely guide ships to their berthing space in different ports of Davao. (ICT)
