Bulua NHS football teams advance to division meet

A FOOTBALL powerhouse is on the rise as the once lowly Bulua National High School (NHS) has sent two teams to the Cagayan de Oro (CdeO) Division meet set at the Rosevale School field in October.

The secondary Boys team and the Futsal Girls team of coach Junieto Actub advanced when they topped the recently concluded CdeO West II District Meet.

The efforts to make Bulua NHS a football power in the city has already resulted positively for the boys and girls of Bulua.

This is because of the non-stop training of the kids, the guidance of coach Junieto Actub and the support of Bulua NHS officials principal Giljun Penuliar and sports coordinator James Alquiza, the lads and lasses from Bulua has gone a long way.

“Since we started our football program in 2014, this has been the best results we have in the yearly West II District Meet,” Actub said.

The Bulua NHS secondary team swept their opponents in the three-team competition, winning against PN Roa NHS 3-1, and Merry Child School 2-1.

The secondary Girls Futsal team also dominated the PN Roa NHS team which is led by their star player Melgrace “Babang” Camarillo. Camarillo is a regular member of the Higala FC and has played in the Palarong Pambansa this year in Antique.

The Bulua girls swept the PN Roa NHS team, in their best-of-three matches, 3-1, and 2-1.

The Bulua Central School however was not so lucky as it lost to Pagatpat Elementary School in the elementary boys category.

The football program of Bulua NHS and Bulua Central School is run by the Bulua Strikers FC under coach Actub and his wife Heintje and supported by Bulua Barangay captain Al Legaspi.

They are a regular in the local football tournaments. They have even competed in the recently concluded Rosevale School Friendship Cup Invitational Football Tournament and the Davao Aguilas FC Football Festival.

Their constant participation in local tournaments have indeed paid dividends and they have started reaping their laurels.
