Construction worker killed after stabbing vendor

A CONSTRUCTION worker was killed by the police after he stabbed dead a street vendor and wounded another at 9:05 p.m. Wednesday, September 6, in Barangay Cogon West, Carmen, Cebu.

Chief Inspector Christian Torres, the town police commander, said suspect Roel Collamat was shot by one of three responding police officers.

Torres said Police Officer (PO) 2 Ever Villacarlos shot Collamat after the suspect did not surrender and tried to stab the officer. Villacarlos, PO2 Everett Capuyan, and PO2 Glenn Molina rushed the suspect to the hospital, where he died.

Collamat attacked pineapple vendors Emar Penidez, 40, and Nolly Labor Cabahug, 30, while they were asleep.

Penidez succumbed to multiple stab wounds, while Cabahug survived the attack.

Collamat was reportedly drunk and high on illegal drugs during the incident.

A 13.5 inches long kitchen knife and a medium pack of white crystals believed to methamphetamine hydrochloride, locally known as "shabu", were recovered from one of the pockets from Collamat. (KAL)
