68-year-old man dead in Dumanjug gunfight

A 68-YEAR-OLD man died in a shootout with his enemy at 11 p.m. Tuesday, September 5, in Barangay Pawa, Dumanjug, Cebu.

Police identified the fatality as Restituto Calago, who succumbed to gunshot wounds in different parts of his body.

Calago's body was found in the cornfield around 6 a.m. Wednesday, September 6.

Suspect Gilbert Omaya, 36, landed in the hospital, after he was hit in the stomach.

Investigation showed Calago blocked the way of Omaya, who was on his way to watch a basketball game in Barangay Bulak, Dumanjug.

Calago then shot Omaya in the stomach. Omaya retaliated and killed the victim.

Calago had been angry at Omaya, who punched him a few months ago. Pawa barangay officials tried to settle their score, but they failed.

Omaya will be charged with homicide before the Provincial Prosecutor's Office. (KAL/SunStar Cebu)
