Bo's Coffee opens another branch in Cebu

CEBU -- Bo's Coffee will open its newest branch on Friday, September 8, at the Northdrive, Mandaue City.

"We want everyone to feel the Bo's Coffee experience as they look for a nook and haven where students, friends and families can study, bond, and share stories in a cozy and feel-at-home atmosphere over their favorite local brew," said Coochy Mamaclay, Bo's Coffee vice president for Brand and Marketing.

Toni Santos, Bo's Coffee Brand and Marketing manager, said: "Being a homegrown brand, we have become the go-to coffee shop in Cebu and will remain as such, as we continually cater to our loyal customers' needs, bringing Philippine coffee closer to you."

During the community dry run held on Thursday, September 7, Bo's Coffee personnel organized a coffee cupping session to better appreciate the nuances of coffee through the Philippine Coffee Origins, all five of which are proudly harvested locally.

Bo's Coffee offers beans that originate from Sagada and Batangas in the Mountain Province, Mt. Kitanglad in Bukidnon, Mt. Apo in Davao, and Mt. Matutum in Cotabato.

Store coach Serah Amor Samson showed how the manual brewing or the pour-over session is done.

Samson advised coffee lovers, who want to brew their beans manually, to use ceramic mug, because clear mugs will not affect the taste of coffee.

"If we will use paper cups, these will have paper-like taste (that affects the taste of the coffee)," she said.

If one wants to use Bo's Coffee beans, Samson suggested a medium-coarse grind and that beans must be weighed into 18 grams. She said they use 320 milliliters (ml) of hot water.

"If i-fine ground siya, dili lang siya molusot sa filter paper, at the same time mas mopait inyong coffee. It is also important nga medium-coarse lang ang coffee beans (If beans are finely grind, it will not only pass through the filter paper, but will also make your coffee taste bitter)," she added.

For Friday's grand opening, Bo's Coffee's espresso-based drinks, hot, iced, and blended, will be offered for just P50.

Ivy Theresa P. Benatiro, Bo's Coffee Vice President for Operations, said: "This (Northdrive branch) is our 97th store across the Philippines."

She added they are hoping to end the year by a 100th store in Intramuros, Manila two months from now.

"We will also be opening our first (two) international stores in Qatar come November," she said.

"We started here in Cebu and we will continue to sustain whatever relationship we have here. Supposedly our goal by 2020, we will make it 300 store, a Cebuano-brand can actually make it in the Philippines and in the world," she added.

The coffee brand now has 97 stores all over the country, mostly in the Visayas and Mindanao. (Jay Ann Ramirez/SunStar Philippines)
