Councilor: ‘Enforce ban of minors in computer shops’

BACOLOD City Councilor Caesar Distrito pushed through a resolution the strict implementation of an ordinance banning minors in computer shops and gaming stations.

Distrito said he filed the resolution in response to the complaints of parents.

“Through this resolution, we would be able to implement the existing ordinance and inspect the computer shops and gaming stations through the Enforcement Team and the City Legal Office under the Office of the City Mayor,” he said.

Distrito said the City Government has the responsibility to look after the general welfare of its constituents and to inculcate good values on the youth by educating them to become responsible and productive citizens.

City Ordinance No. 341, as amended by City Ordinance 486, regulates the hours for minors below 18 years old in internet cafes.

The ordinance provides that internet access or online gaming establishments shall be open to minors not earlier than than 5 p.m. and not later than 8 p.m. except on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays or unless accompanied by their parents or guardians and teachers.
