A PERSON was injured while three vehicles were damaged after Thursday night’s heavy downpour triggered a minor landslide in Barangay 19, Garcia Heights, Davao City.
Davao City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (CDDRMC) chief of operation and warning Rodrigo Bustillo said Friday that a victim, who he did not identify, only sustained a slight injury. The incident happened around 6 p.m.
At that time, the tricycles were parked along the road before it was buried by the eroded soil. The incident also caused traffic to build up as loose soil occupied one lane.
Bustillo added that he immediately instructed his personnel in coordination with the City Engineers Office (CEO) to clear the area. Backhoes and dump truck were deployed to clean the site immediately.
The heavy rain on Thursday was brought by the Inter-tropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) affecting Mindanao. It lasted for hours which also caused knee-level flood in downtown areas.
“There are only some parts in downtown that were affected, say Marfori. The water level raised but it immediately subsided,” Bustillo said.
Bustillo admitted that the drainage system in downtown area has to be retrofitted to further improve it to avoid flooding when heavy rain struck the city.
He clarified that no evacuation happened in flood-prone areas.
Based on the weather forecast of the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa), Caraga, and Davao region will experience cloudy skies with light to moderate rains and thunderstorms.
The rest of Mindanao will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers due to localized thunderstorms and light to moderate winds coming from the Southeast to South with slight to moderate seas will be experienced.
