Binay grateful for 'outpouring' of support after speech

VICE President Jejomar Binay expressed his gratitude on Thursday for the "outpouring" of support from various individuals and sectors after he called the Aquino administration "numb" and "incompetent."

Following his speech, the Office of the Vice President and Binay himself have received calls and messages of support from individuals and heads of various sectoral and local organizations.

"Thank you for your support. Ang mga tulad ninyo ang lalong nagpapalakas sa aking determinasyon na ituloy ang laban natin sa kahirapan at ibalik ang respeto sa batas [You give me the strength and determination to continue this fight against poverty and to restore our faith in the law]," Binay said in a statement.

"With your help, we can build a new and better nation for the people, particularly the poor," he added.

The Vice President railed against the administration in his address, calling it insensitive to the real needs of the people.

Binay also slammed the administration for its failure to respond to critical issues that hounded it, such as the Mamasapano massacre, the rehabilitation of the Metro Rail Transit, and the Priority Development Assistance Fund and Disbursement Acceleration Program.

"I think what resonated most with our people was the need to liberate the poor from poverty under a caring and competent government, and the selective justice employed under this administration," Binay said.

"I believe our people are also fed up with the incompetent and callous management employed by the current administration," he added.

Binay, who retained the highest approval and trust ratings among top government officials in Pulse Asia's latest survey, vowed to continue working for the people's welfare.

The Vice President also stressed that he will not back down from the presidential race despite the sustained efforts to malign him and his family. (CVB/Sunnex)
