No gun ban violators yet

THE Task Force Davao (TFD) said since the election gun ban took effect on April 14, they have not apprehended a single violator yet in connection to the Commission on Election (Comelec) order.

TFD commander Colonel Nolasco Mempin said in an interview that aside from the fixed and existing checkpoints, they have already set up several checkpoints in different districts in Davao City to effectively implement gun ban and other prohibition to avoid election-related violence.

“On April 27, pa yung aming first meeting with the Comelec officials here in Davao City. We have not apprehended person or group of persons violating gun ban related to that. So far, peaceful pa naman ang ating area in Davao City,” Mempin said.

The implementation of security checkpoints was in coordination with the Davao City Police Office (DCPO) and with Comelec of three districts of Davao City.

“Naka in-place naman yong three major fixed checkpoints wherein as part naman ng Martial Law dire-diretso naman yong ating search and inspection sa lahat ng vehicles coming into Davao City including searches ng mga bag passengers coming from van, bus and even private vehicles,” he added.

He said the security forces remain on heightened alert for possible atrocities and terroristic activities of lawless groups with the upcoming Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan election on May 14.

“Here in Davao, nasa alert level two parin tayo however, for the members of Task Force Davao and even DCPO, we are still implementing some sort of level three meaning heightened parin yong ating alertness and vigilance against possible terroristic plans by the enemies,” he said.
