CPPO cops, dependents to receive discounts from school, hospitals

MEMBERS of the Cebu Provincial Police Office (CPPO) and their dependents will get a 10-percent discount for specific services at the University of Cebu-Medical Center (UCMed) and St. Vincent General Hospital.

They will also receive a 10-percent discount on tuition for UC’s undergraduate programs, while active officers will get a 30-percent discount on tuition for the school’s graduate programs (master’s and doctoral, excluding Law and Medicine).

Dependents of police personnel killed in the line of duty will receive full scholarship.

The UC, UCMed and the St. Vincent General Hospital yesterday signed a memorandum of agreement with CPPO, which was represented by the Provincial Advisory Council.

“I’m very happy to be a part of this council. I’m glad that the UC and UCMed will be able to help. I think, sometimes, the police are underappreciated,” said Candice Gotianuy, UC chancellor.

Police Regional Office (PRO) 7 Jose Espino expressed his gratitude, saying that the grant and the discount is a big help, especially to policemen who are wounded during anti-drugs operations.

Bawal sa amin mag-solicit (We’re not allowed to solicit). The PNP is cash-strapped talaga so kailangang-kailan (It’s a welcome development considering the PNP is cash-strapped). We will work hard to not commit lapses during operations,” he said.

He said the MOA signing boosted their morale.

In a press release by the CPPO, the MOA was made in recognition of the importance of giving privileges to PNP members and their dependents, the commitment to give quality education, alleviated quality of life and easy access to affordable and decent hospital care.
