Jealous man strafes ex-girlfriend’s store

A MERCHANDISE store in Bacolod City was damaged after the owner’s former partner strafes at the steel roll-up door of the establishment due to jealousy on Sunday, September 10.

Chief Inspector Jovil Sedel, head of Police Station 6, said Christian Bejada, 40, of Barangay Taculing, was seen carrying a submachine gun around 1 a.m. He then fired at the store owned by his former girlfriend.

Neighbors called for police assistance that resulted to the arrest of Bejada, a former call center agent.

The store owner and some of her helpers were inside, but they were unharmed. Some of the items inside the store and a multi-cab parked near the store were damaged.

Sedel said jealousy triggered Bejada’s action. He was reportedly drunk.

Police recovered two rounds of deformed .9mm bullets, eight fired cartridges of .9mm, two fired bullets, and a deformed metal jacket.

Found in Bejada’s possession were a Sten Mk5 submachine gun loaded with a round of .9mm luger ammunition, and one long magazine containing 13 rounds of .9mm ammunition.

Sedel said Bejada told them that the firearm was owned by his grandfather, who was a member of Hukbalahap or Hukbong Laban sa Hapon (Anti-Japanese Army).

Charges for illegal discharge of firearm and illegal possession of firearms and ammunition were filed against Bejada, who is detained at the station.

Sedel said the store owner will also file charges for violation of Republic Act 9262 or Anti-Violence Against Women and Their Children Act against Bejada.
