Activities set for celebration of Consumer Welfare Month 2017

THE Consumer Protection Division of the Department of Trade and Industry Regional Office in Central Luzon has set activities for the celebration of Consumer Welfare Month (CWM) in October.

The celebration will have the theme “Consumer Rights in the Digital Age.” Proclamation No. 1098 which took effect in September 1998 declares October as Consumer Welfare Month.

The kick off activity for the Consumer Welfare Month is a nationwide simultaneous Fun Run on October 1, 2017. For Central Luzon, the DTI provincial offices will conduct their respective fun runs in their localities in the early morning of the first day of CWM.

On October 5, a seminar forum on product standards will be held at the Regional Government Center to further disseminate information and policies on product standards.

On October 26, high school students from all over the region will participate in the poster making contest and in the “Dulaang Pangmamimili” contest.

During the culminating activity on October 27, 2017, newly accredited consumer organizations in Central Luzon will be recognized.

There will also be a presentation on the Cyber Crime Prevention Act and a media forum.

The event will be capped by the awarding of the “Search for Reyna ngPalengke 2017.” The two day culminating activities of the CWM 2017 on October 26 to 27 will be held at the Walter Mart Event Center in the City of San Fernando, Pampanga.

The Regional CWM 2017 celebration for Central Luzon is held in partnership with the Federation of DTI Accredited Consumer Organizations-Central Luzon, the Department of Education and the National Bureau of Investigation.

It aims to disseminate sound consumer information to both the public and private sector, including the media on consumer related matters including policies and technologies that affect the consumers, as well as to recognize the consumer as a vital player in the economy. (PR)
