Wofex staging boosts Davao food business

DAVAO City has continued to be the most successful venue for regional show of World Food Expo (Wofex), the largest export-oriented food show in the country.

Joel Pascual, Wofex president, said the exposition, as the major economic hub in the city, has continued to be the biggest in terms of sales generated and number of participants among their regional shows.

Pascual said Thursday's opening ceremony of the exposition at SMX Convention Center proved that the city is a perfect venue for reaching the show's target market.

"Here in Davao, the good thing is we have already a lot of regular participating exhibitors yearly," he said.

Although he refused to disclose the total generated sales in last year's expo, he assured the exhibitors generated "good sales" during the expo run.

"Their (exhibitors) products and services are sold out and orders are keep on coming," Pascual said.

The expo also opened doors to a lot of food service firms to penetrate in the city.

"A lot of them (exhibitors) have joined us to see if there is market in the city. Once there is market then they will open a branch or office in the city because of their experience during the show," Pascual said.

This year, some 150 companies are showcasing their latest food and beverage products and services with over 6,000 expected visitors to attend the exposition, a 20 percent increase as compared to last year's turnout.

The expo opened simultaneously with the Mindanao Culinary Festival and will run until June 27.
