‘Golden Flame of the East’

SAVE the date! The Cultural Center of the Philippines brings us “Gintong Alab sa Silangan” (Golden Flame of the East) on September 27 at the SMX Convention Center.

The “Gintong Alab sa Silangan” is a collaborative production under the CCP’s Cultural Exchange Program wherein the CCP supports the “growth and development of arts council all over the country through relevant workshops and seminars.”

The Cultural Exchange Division’s Ugnayan sa Sining: Regional Collaborations, Community Performances and Exchange Tours “aims to further encourage and promote love for country, understanding, appreciation and pride for our own culture, history and artistic forms.”

This program can hopefully transform lives and communities by reaching out to audiences through art and culture. “Gintong Alab sa Silangan” is also a collaboration of prominent regional performing groups from around the country with representatives from each region. It is with pride that Bacolod City’s Maskara Theater Ensemble of the University of St. La Salle is representing the Visayas.

Through over four decades of theater work, Maskara Theater Ensemble had provided opportunities to young theater practitioners and gives them support to develop their creativity and craftsmanship through rigorous training.

Maskara had participated in Amnesty International Theater Festival, Tanghal National Theater Festival, and the Likhan Dulaan International Collaboration. Founded by Peque Gallaga in 1972, the Maskara Theater Ensemble shares its love for the theater to the community.

From Mindanao is the Integrated Performing Arts Guild (Ipag) which is the resident company of the MSU-Iligan Institute of Technology. It is multi-awarded nationally and internationally, and has enthralled audiences in Hawaii, the United States, Europe and Asia.

Thirty-nine years ago, Ipag was founded by Ligaya Fernando-Amilbangsa, a Ramon Magsaysay awardee. Through the years, it has been recognized by the Palanca, the Francisco Demetrio, CCP Gantimpala, CCP Pilak, Fookien Times, the UP Likhaan Awards, and the prestigious UMPIL Gawad Pedro Bucaneg. The founder and artistic director Steven Patrick Fernandez was awarded the 2014 Umpil Pambansang Alagad ni Balagtas, the highest distinction the Writers Union of the Philippines can award.

Professor Fernandez is not only a director, but also a libretist and composer, whose works have been anthologized, published and awarded, and led him to lecture in Sharjah, Shanghai, Bangkok, Singapore, Manila, Ho Chi Minh, and Yogyakarta.

Sinukwan Kapampangan Performing Arts (est. 1992) represents Luzon and takes pride in being the country’s representative to the International Youth Fellowship World Camp in South Korea, and in the 4th Trails of Civilization and Performance in Cambodia.

The group frequents the World Dance Alliance Conferences and Arts Festival in Hong Kong, Malaysia, Japan, Australia, Singapore, the United States, among others. Sinukwan Kapampangan materialized through the creativity and artistry of Mr. Peter de Vera. It has just established the Bale-Balayan, a center for transformation through the arts.

Completing the roster of performers, “Gintong Alab sa Silangan” presents from the National Capital Region the four-man Philippine Barangay Folk Dance Troupe (PBFDT) Rondalla. The PBFDT has performed across the Philippines and abroad bringing into each performance life and soul.
The “Gintong Alab sa Silangan” Production is hosted by the Negros Cultural Foundation and has two performances on September 27 – 10:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. at the SMX Convention Center.

This is written and directed by Steven P.C. Fernandez and “captures the centuries of history of the Filipino people encapsulating the spirits of the significant eras that shaped the Filipino and his nation.”

Tickets are at P200 for students, P300 for regular audience, and a special bundle price of P150 for 50 pieces. Get your tickets at the Negros Museum. You may call at 4334764 and 7085080.

Please, do not miss this opportunity to witness our cultural heritage in the performing arts.
