TWO CEBUANO jins have been named into the Philippine team that will be competing in The World Taekwondo Hanmadang 2015 on July 30 to Aug. 2 at the Ichung Sports and Culture Complex in Pyeongtaek, Gyeonggi, South Korea.

The jins who were selected to join the Philippine team in the huge poomsae meet are first-timers Lee Navales and Moses Bullicer.

“They are giving exposure to those who don’t have extensive international exposure. Those who have not been to Hanmadang were given priority,” Philippine Taekwondo Association Region 7 chairman Tony del Prado told Sun.Star Cebu.

Although Lee and Bullicer are rookies to The World Hanmadang, they have already competed internationally and have snagged medals in tournaments like the Asian Taekwondo Championships and ASEAN Taekwondo Champiosnhips.

“We don’t know yet (on what event they will compete in).The national coaching staff will decide two weeks before competition where they will fit and have a good chance of winning,” said del Prado.

In last year’s tournament, Cebu was well represented and four Cebuanos grabbed medals.

Clement Tan and McAvyngyr Alob won a gold medal in the team event; world champion and Southeast Asian Games silver medalist Rinna Babanto won gold in Junior 4 Mixed Team event; Alob added a silver in the Junior 4 Pair event, and Nichole Maurin and Tan won a silver in the Junior 3 Pair event.

On the other hand, Cebu Taekwondo Association coach Larry Elpa will be sent to Chosun, South Korea on July 16 for a coaches’s training.

“Larry Elpa is our representative this year. It will be held at the Chosun University. It is an all-expense paid trip. They will be trained in the new techniques in teaching, both sparring and poomsae. This is the fourth consecutive year where we have a representative. We send different coaches every year,” said del Prado.
