DAVAO City's very own Jenifer Sumagang Kilapio made weight on Saturday, September 16, and will make her debut against a still undetermined opponent when pairings are released today in the 9th Asian Junior Wushu Championships set in Gumi City, South Korea.
Though feeling some newbie jitters as she is seeing action in her first Asian stint, Kilapio quoted her favorite memory verse Joshua 1:19 that talks about being strong and courageous. Thus, she said that her training and confidence in God will help her get through the tournament.
"Goal ko sa laro ay manalo (My goal in the game is to win) and represent Christ," she said in a Facebook interview with SunStar Davao Saturday.
The 16-year-old Batang Pinoy 2016 champion is entered in the girls 48 kilograms division. Completing the lean-but-mean national wushu team are Gideon Padua of Baguio City (boys 51 kg) and Rusell Diaz of Iloilo City (boys 48 kg) with coaches Tong Qinghai, Nell Jone Astudillo and Tansuitong Candelaria.
Kilapio was a member of the King's Sword Martial Arts under Astudillo before she joined the national team.
