Negros info tech center bags anew 2 national awards

THE Negros Occidental Language and Information Technology Center (Nolitc) in Bacolod City bagged two national awards from the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT).

These are the Emerging Technology for Education, Employment, Entrepreneurial, and Economic Development (Tech4Ed) Center, and second top performing center in the country for local government unit (LGU) category this year.

Ma. Cristina Orbecido, vocational school administrator of Nolitc, received the 2017 Emerging Tech4Ed Center recognition from DICT Secretary Rodolfo Salalima during the 12th Knowledge Exchange Conference held at Heritage Hotel in Pasay City Saturday.

The Provincial Government-run center bested six other finalists in the national competition, which were shortlisted from a total of 1,871 Tech4Ed centers operating nationwide.

"Nolitc was recognized for its exemplary performance and contribution to the growth and advancement of the community and the Filipino people through the innovative and highly effective utilization of ICT," Orbecido said.

The 2017 National Tech4Ed Center Awards is recognizing three winners each for outstanding and emerging Tech4Ed centers, respectively.

The outstanding category covers at least 10-year old Tech4Ed centers, while those established for two years and below, like that of Nolitc, fall under the emerging category.

Based on the criteria set by the DICT, 10 percent came from the number of likes and shares in the agency's Tech4Ed Facebook page.

The bulk of the points, 90 percent, comprised socio-economic impact, innovation, productivity, and partnership and networking.

The winners will be the ambassadors of the DICT especially in championing its program on solving the digital gap, Orbecido reiterated.

In a separate rites on Friday, the DICT also recognized Nolitc as the second top performing Tech4Ed Center in the country.

The center received the award for two consecutive years already for its excellent performance on having registered the second highest number of Tech4Ed platform users for 2017.

The Tech4Ed is a project of the DICT aimed at empowering Filipinos through innovative digital inclusion towards sustainable development.

In 2016, the DICT also recognized Nolitc as top performing Tech4ed Center in the country with second highest increase in number of registered users.

"These awards are validation that NOLITC's Tech4Ed programs have been felt by the community and delivered what is expected of the center,

Orbecido added. (EPN)
