4Ps exemplary children, Huwarang Pamilya feted

EXEMPLARY children of the Pantawid Pamilya 2017 as well as the Huwarang Pamilya 2017 in Davao Region were recognized during the Department of Social Welfare and Development’s (DSWD)-Davao regional search and are set to compete in the national level, an official said.

Mercedita Jabagat, regional director of the DSWD-Davao Region said Monday, September 18, that the winners of this year’s search will be formally awarded on Friday during the family day’s celebration at their office.

Kenneth Bardinas, 13, from Braulio Dujali, Davao del Norte was selected as this year’s exemplary child after meeting the criteria set by DSWD.

To be qualified, one must be a beneficiary of the Pantawid Pamilya member whose age is from 10 to 14, must be enrolled, compliant to the school attendance requirement of the program and has 90 percent school attendance with good scholastic standing and no grades below the passing mark, fully-immunized and dewormed twice for 6 to 14 years old.

Bardinas was judged based on his behavior and practice, talent, intelligence and wit, community and school participation, presence and appearance.

In fact Bardinas, also known as The Young Balladeer," joined The Voice Kids Philippines under Camp Kawayan, showcased his talent to the media on Monday.

The panel of judges was composed of Civil Society Organizations and non-government agencies and government agencies including the Department of Education (DepEd), Department of Health (DOH), Child Alert Mindanao, Kaugmaon Center for Children’s Concern, Love for the Children Foundation, Tambayan Center for Children’s Rights and DSWD.

The regional winner received a P20,000 cash and plaque while provincial winners received P10,000.

For the Huwarang Pamilya 2017, Betua family from Sto. Tomas, Davao del Norte emerged as the model family after exemplifying characteristic of a Huwarang Pamilya because of their strong family ties, positive Filipino values and positive impact in the community they are in.

They were selected because they uphold positive values despite the challenges that poverty causes, practices and promotes healthy living and environment care initiatives, active involvement in the community, serving inspiration to other members of the community and for striving to improve living condition amidst difficult situation.

DSWD likewise tapped the Department of Interior and Local Government, Philippine National Police, Department of Labor and Employment, DepEd, DOH, Tambayan and DSWD in selecting the model family for this year.

Meanwhile, Jabagat said they will be sent to Manila to be the region’s bet in the national level where they will again undergo evaluation and further assessment along with other representative from different regions across the country.
