City government to hold mayor’s basketball cup

THE Iloilo City Government will conduct a mayor’s basketball cup at 1 p.m. on Sunday, April 29, at the district of La Paz covered gym.

The tournament entitled “Mayor Jose Espinosa Cup Iloilo City Invitational Basketball Tournament” aims to primarily promote bond between the government employees including the enhancements of their physical and technical skills.

“I believe that more than their job, they deserve to have some time for sports. This will help them improve their physical and technical skills. This will also give them the chance to meet new people and friends. The city government will continue promoting sports program like this,” Mayor Jose Espinosa III said.

The competition embodies the government’s sports program through City Sports Division with the participation of more than 30 teams.

According to city sports division officer-in-charge Moises Salomon, the court battle has four categories - Inter-agency, Inter-district barangay official, Open and 40-Up category.

“We didn’t expect to bring together a large number of participants this year. It only shows that members of different sectors continue to support us so we are inviting everyone to join us this Sunday. After the ceremony, we’ll start with the first set of game. We assure you that the game will be more exciting this time,” Salomon added.

For bracket A of the inter-agency category, it will be composed of Iloilo City Government, Bureau of Fire Protection, Department of Labor and Employment, Philippine Coast Guard, and Developmental Bank of the Philippines.

While in bracket B consists of Special Weapon and Tactics, Iloilo City Police Office, Bureau of Jail Management and Penology, Department of Education, and Government Service Insurance System.

In 40-up category, Iloilo Tuesday Club, Kris DB Deocampo, Iloilo City Government, Duterte Starr and UK Sports for bracket A while in bracket B are Legends, NBI, CPU Agahan, MASA, and Double J Builders.

The category of inter-district barangay official category composed of Arevalo, City Proper, Jaro, La Paz, Lapuz, Mandurriao and Molo districts.

Lastly, for Open category, there were Iloilo Mission Hospital, University of San Agustin, Lennard, Team Sales Promotion, Conlu Customs Brokerage and Double J Builders. (Carolyn Jane Abello)
