Capitol allots P1-M aid for Negros Trade Fair

THE Provincial Government of Negros Occidental has allocated a P1-million financial assistance to the Association of Negros Producers (ANP) for this year’s Negros Trade Fair.

The Provincial Board, during its regular session Wednesday, September 20, approved the said allocation to be funded under the province’s lump sum appropriation for 2007 through grants and donations.

Fourth District Board Member Victor Javellana, chairman of committee on agriculture, said the assistance will benefit local producers who will showcase the best of Negros Occidental during the trade fair.

The annual event, now on its 32nd year, will be held at Glorietta Activity Center in Makati City on September 27 to October 1.

It is themed “Food for Thought” with the tagline “Feast your Eyes, Fill your Heart, and Feed your Soul.”

It will gather at least 80 participating-entrepreneurs, who are members of ANP, showcasing wide variety of truly Negros products from food and gift, décor and homestyle (GDH), fashion and garments, furniture and furnishings, natural and organic, and tourism sectors.

ANP president Cristina Gaston said the organization is grateful for the support of the provincial government.

“This assistance goes towards promoting Negros Occidental and its excellent products and services to the global market,” Gaston said, adding that the amount will help defray the expenses for marketing, promotions, publications, and venue rental, among others.

She said that this year’s trade fair will highlight Negros Occidental as the natural and organic food capital of the Philippines.

The Department of Tourism in Western Visayas said that the event is seen to further boost the tourism industry of the province as it will draw thousands of visitors.

Earlier, ANP said it is working on “rebranding” or creating a new look for 2017 Negros Trade Fair by offering products that are different from the previous years.

Negrense producers are being challenged to produce and present “something new” to the taste of the market, it added.
