A MEMBER of the Arnold “Aki” Cuadra’s robbery group was arrested by operatives of Police Station 2 in a drug bust inside his house in Purok NarraBaybay, Barangay 8 in Bacolod City Thursday afternoon, September 21.
Police identified the suspect as Edmar Escala, 18.
Chief Inspector Benedicto Villarias, head of Police Station 2, said Escala was arrested after he sold a sachet of suspected "shabu" (methamphetamine hydrochloride) to a police agent for P500 at 1 p.m.
Police recovered from Escala’s possession one small and two elongated plastic sachets of shabu and the P500 marked money.
Also seized from Escala’s house were two carnapped Yamaha motorcycles.
Villarias said Escala, who was under surveillance for almost three months, tried to evade arrest.
He added that Escala’s group was involved in various carnapping incidents not only in Bacolod City, but also in other towns and cities in Negros Occidental.
Villarias said that Escala has a pending record with Bacolod City Police Office, and has been identified as a member of the “Aki Cuadra” group.
The suspect is detained at the custodial facility of Police Station 2 and is facing charges for violations of Sections 5 and 11 of Republic Act 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
Villarias urged victims of carnapping to visit the Police Station 2 to identify the suspect so that additional charges can be filed against him.
