Atom Araullo returns to GMA Network

BROADCAST journalist Atom Araullo has returned to the Kapuso network.

GMA Network welcomed Araullo Thursday evening and announced his inclusion in the network's News and Public Affairs group.

"Kami ay nalulugod sa paglipat ni Atom Araullo para lalo siyang mahasa sa pagiging magaling na broadcast journalist at documentarist," said GMA Network chairman and CEO Felipe Gozon in a statement.

Araullo, a graduate of Applied Physics from the University of the Philippines-Diliman, started his television career on GMA-7. He used to be part of the station's primetime newscast "24 Oras" via its segment "ATOMic Sports".

He then moved to ABS-CBN network in 2004.

"I'm very excited. Ang dami kong gustong gawin, particularly in the realm of documentary production. I think this is a great place to do all of that," Araullo said.

To recall, Araullo's documentary on climate change for his former network earned him a Bronze World Medal at the 2017 New York Festivals "World's Best TV and Films".

"Ano man ang mga gagawin ko dito will be the next stage of my career. Gusto kong mas marami pang mai-share sa mga tao tungkol sa aking mga paniniwala, at yung passion ko to do documentaries," he added.

Aside from his television commitments, he also completed shooting Mike de Leon's upcoming film "Citizen Jake," where he played the lead role.

Araullo is also an Advocate for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees in the Philippines, a humanitarian organization mandated to lead the protection of refugees and internally displaced persons. (SunStar Philippines)
