FOCUSED on regaining the mobile phone market, Finnish phone brand Nokia bared on Thursday, April 26, a three-throng strategy to strengthen its brand and presence in the market.

HMD Philippines country manager Shannon Mead told Davao reporters that for 2018, HMD Global, the home of Nokia phones, will be focusing on expanding portfolio, deepening community presence and pursuing innovation.

In expanding its portfolio, Mead shared that they have now seven smartphones and seven featured phones in the market giving consumers a wide array of choices in all its phones.

Meanwhile, in deepening its presence, especially in the Philippines, the country director shared that they will have relevant engagements with the different communities particularly in provinces and cities outside Metro Manila through involvement in fiestas, festivals and other relevant events.

“As a key market, we are committed to building and strengthening our presence in Davao,” Mead said.

HMD global marketing head Gibby Peñaflor, in a separate interview, said that a lot of events have been prepared for Mindanao being its key market in the country.

“Aside from Davao City, we will be going around the cities of Tagum, Cagayan de Oro and General Santos. In the coming months, we are also considering Zamboanga City,” Peñaflor said.

For innovation, Mead said, the firm is in constant pursuit of coming up with new mobile phone models design for the new generation.

However, he emphasized that alongside launching new phone models, the company is also geared towards relaunching some remarkable Nokia phones tapping the nostalgia which is deemed important in writing the new chapter of the Finnish phone brand.

For over a year in operation as a company, HMD Global, Mead reported that they shipped 70 million mobile phones globally, making it available in some 170 markets internationally.

Meanwhile, the company rolled out on Thursday four new mobile phones in Davao City, the Nokia 7 plus, Nokia 1, New Nokia 6 and Nokia 8110 4G.

First introduced at the Mobile World Congress in February earlier this year, these new Nokia phones will all be available in Davao this summer.

“HMD Global is proud to continue the story of Nokia mobile through the qualities that we first loved such as durability and innovation, designed to suit every need and style. We are optimistic that with the new generation of Nokia Android smartphones and our classic but highly upgraded feature phone, the Davaoeños will get the best mobile experience across all price points,” Mead said.

HMD Global has partnered with cellphone dealers and retailers to serve as distribution channels for the Nokia phones.

In Mindanao, Mead said, a hundred of local partners were tapped as partners for the distribution of Nokia Android smartphones in their respective outlets.

“One is Wiltelcom, they’ll launch multi branded outlets, but we are in talks of opening Nokia-focused brand outlet so consumers can enjoy the full experience,” he said.

Meanwhile, coinciding with the announcement of the new phones, HMD Global will be opening the Nokia Mobile NewSeum—an interactive exhibit which displays old to new Nokia phones, showcasing the brand’s unbreakable DNA of reliable mobile experience throughout the years.

For Davao City, the NewSeum will be stage at Gaisano Mall of Davao from April 27 to May 5.
