Star routs Batang Pier

FIFTH-SEEDED Purefoods Star Hotshots thrashed fourth-ranked Global Port Batang Pier, 126-73, in the PBA Governor's Cup quarter-finals held at the Smart Araneta Coliseum Friday evening.

The grand slam champions Star Hotshots relied on Marqus Blakely who poured in 23 baskets and grabbed nine rebounds, lifting his team's hopes for a Final Four berth with only one more game to win in the quarters playoffs.

Batang Pier gained a twice-to-beat advantage in the quarter-finals and its first loss to Star Hotshost last night forced a sudden death with the winner booking a trip to the semi-finals.

Purefoods coach Tim Cone's wards dominated since the start of the ballgame, scoring 37-18, in the first period and stretching the lead to 72-35 at the break.

The Star Hotshots then never looked back as they continued to overwhelm Batang Pier in both offense and defense to secure the victory.

Top-seeded Alaska Aces and eighth-ranked Barangay Ginebra San Miguel were still playing as of presstime Friday.

June 27's games pit Rain or Shine Elasto Painters against Barako Bull Energy Boosters at 3 p.m. and Meralco Bolts against San Miguel Beermen at 5:15 p.m. also at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
