TWO people, including a village official, were killed in a gun attack by masked men in the province of Zamboanga del Norte, the police reported on Tuesday, September 26.
Senior Superintendent Raul Tacaca, Zamboanga del Norte police director, disclosed the incident occurred around 5:10 p.m., Monday, September 25, in the village of Baybay, Liloy municipality.
Tacaca identified the slain victims as Philip Malon, 40, barangay chairperson of Mucas, Liloy, and Edgar Vincent Lagare, 27. They were rushed but failed to reach alive in the hospital.
Wounded were Ava Vega, 35, and Arl Acas, 25. They were hospitalized.
Tacaca said investigation showed that before the incident, the victims were seen to have disembarked from a vehicle in front of the commercial building owned by Liloy Town Councilor Marjhon Bihag, which is still under construction.
From there, they proceeded to their rented stall nearby to meet with Marichu Acas. She was unscathed during the incident.
Further investigation showed that four men armed with rifles and wearing bonnet ski masks aboard motorcycles arrived and shot the victims.
Tacaca said that Malon tried to escape but was pursued and pinned down by the suspects. They fled towards the town of Tampilisan.
He said investigation continues in a bid to establish the identities and arrest the suspects. (SunStar Philippines)
